About the author
Kyle Chan is an American researcher and fellow at the Brookings Institution’s China Center. He is also a 2025 fellow with the Penn Project on the Future of US-China Relations. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Sociology Department at Princeton University and an adjunct researcher at the RAND Corporation.
He has testified as an expert before the U.S.-China Commission. He has been interviewed by international media outlets, including The New York Times, CNBC, The Financial Times, The Economist, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, The New Republic, Wired, Vox, MIT Technology Review, Harvard Business Review, New Scientist, Brazil’s Folha de S.Paulo, The Wire China, Rest of World, Voice of America, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Deutsche Welle, Nikkei Asia, and Le Monde.
He has a Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton.
